Laura Shanley lives in Carmel, Indianapolis. She has previously gone by the pseudonym Sue Magina, and started the group Periods for Pence, which later became Periods for Politicians as its focus spread to other lawmakers. She began it, almost spontaneously, after Pence signed a bill into law that required women who’d miscarried to bury their fetuses, and also prohibited abortions because a child may be born with a disability like Down syndrome, or more severe genetic disorders. It was one of the strictest anti-abortion laws in the nation.
